Steve Young - Hillsborough Area Director

For those of you that do not already know I am pleased to announce that Steve Young recently joined the FCA staff as the Area Director for Hillsborough County. Over the past 41 years Steve has experienced FCA from almost every possible position; as a high school camper in California, a college athlete at the University of Colorado, a pro athlete with the Bucs and the Dolphins in the late 70’s, the dean and athletic director at Black Mountain, a faithful board member and frequent speaker on behalf of FCA. His long standing love for FCA is apparent.

Steve’s approach to the ministry is based on the old saying “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.
With this service-first mindset he hopes to establish meaningful relationships with area coaches, huddle sponsors, students and supporters that will enable him to freely share the Gospel with them. His mentality concerning volunteers and board members is “it has to be fun to get it done”, so those serving can anticipate an enjoyable experience. Steve’s thoughts on the funding of the ministry are to create a broad base of supporters that contribute on a monthly basis. This will make it possible to create a stable budget, free up the staff to concentrate on ministry more than fundraising, and will allow the monies raised from special events to be used to grow the ministry team and expand the programs and scholarships offered to the coaches and students.

Steve and I have a great relationship, a shared appreciation of the outdoors, and a mutual love for the Lord, which excites me about working with him to grow the FCA ministry in the Tampa Bay area.
