"Dinner with the Stars" Celebrating 30 years of ministry since the inaugural banquet in 1978
Almost 350 STARS (FCA supporters and guests) from around Tampa Bay joined together in celebrating 30 plus years of using the influence of athletics to reach others for Christ. The stars were greeted by charming paparazzi and had their picture taken with classic corvettes upon entering the event. The stars mingled among friends and speakers while enjoying appetizers, refreshments and a string ensemble in the upper level of the Tampa Performing Arts Center. Former Buccaneer and current FCA Tampa Bay Leadership Board member Steve Young introduced the evening's emcee, Pastor Ken Smith from 1st Baptist of Wachula. After Pastor Ken welcomed the stars, he warned us of the rising stars (high school athletes) coming to visit the tables during the meal. These rising stars shared how FCA camps, huddles and godly coaches had influenced their lives toward Christ.
After the meal was complete the FCA Southeast Regional Director, Del Wright introduced the local staff (Glen Shamblen and Pat Kavanugh) and then presented a unique special thank you gift to George and Nancy Witt for their above and beyond service for the Lord through FCA.
Special speaker Nathan Whitaker shared his testimony and several unique glimpses into how the Lord has directed not only his life but also the life of his wife Amy. From Steve Spurrier statements to Tony Dungy stories, Nathan was sharing real life happenings that made us all feel at home with laughter and yet pricked our heart's toward a closer walk with Christ. Throughout Nathan's sharing we learned that FCA has been a positive Godly influence in his life; starting in middle school, weaving through high school and college and now he serves on Tampa Bay's FCA advisory board.
A special thanks go to Brian and Karen Code for their tireless efforts over the last six or seven months planning and organizing this exciting event. Their efforts were focused on the stars having an enjoyable evening yet challenging them to open their wallets and support FCA in Tampa Bay for the next year. Currently FCA has netted just over $40,000 in cash, checks and monthly pledges during this event.
Thank you Tampa Bay for supporting FCA ministry in our home town.
