Fields of Faith Seminole High School Wednesday October 8, 2008
What an incredible evening. Nearly 350 students from several participating middle school, high schools, and local churches attended the 2008 FCA Fields of Faith a nationwide FCA event. Four FCA Student huddles organized an outstanding evening by combining worship bands, audio technicians and student testimonies. They learned what it is like to rearrange an event when two Buccaneers suddenly became available to share the Lord's work in their life. Special thanks to Luke McCown and Bryan Clark for sharing some of their life's moments with the students. Then on the morning of the event (because of the changes in the playoff schedule) some Rays wanted to attend. Not to speak, just to be in attendance and visit with the teens. Of course we made room on the program for Gabe Gross and Ben Zobrist to share how God has been working in their lives.
It's quite amazing when professional athletics take the time to impact the lives of students for Christ. It's also exciting when the lives of these athletes are living examples of how Christ would have us live. The pro's shared how important sexual purity was to their personal walk with Christ. They each shared their personal testimony that they were able to live a life of purity until marriage and now through out their marriage by the power of Christ. Letting students know that even in todays testing times Christ can give us the power for victory. This was not a planned topic or thought it was just how the Lord opened their hearts.
For the Bucs it was after the long day of the practice week. For the Rays it was after winning the ALDS (White Sox) and before the ALCS (Red Sox). Yet the pro's cared for our teens so much that all the other pressures they are facing in life were set aside. Both groups of players also brought their team chaplains and the Rays even brought two AAA players so they could see what sharing was like. The minor leaguers were told they could share next time. I can't wait for that next opportunity. Special thanks to the FCA student leaders who pulled this event together.
Groups of teenagers served as welcome teams as attendees drove into the parking lot, then as attendees weaved around buildings and again shared their smiles and a hearty welcome as people entered the stadium. Fields of Faith t-shirts were found everywhere.
Promptly at the 6:30 pm start time Seminole HS FCA President Leah Clements welcomed the growing crowd and thanked Coach Roper for allowing FCA to use the Seminole Stadium. She handed the mic to Largo HS Becca Wayne who read the evening's scripture 2 Chronicles 34:31 Then the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD to walk after the LORD, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant written in this book. Issac from Indian Rocks Christian then continued the program with the opening prayer.
After a couple songs lead by the Fields of Faith Worship Band we heard touching testimonies of how God is working in the lives of today's teens. Alicia Brewer from Largo HS, Josh "Ace" Acceturro from Indian Rocks Christian , and Leah Clements from Seminole HS reminded us of the loving and forgiving Lord we are serving. These young people standing in front of their peers and sharing how God is working in their lives challenged all of us. This truly was an enjoyable evening of Godly inspired worship.
One more special thanks to JJ Johnson, youth pastor of Indian Rocks Baptist Church, and volunteers from Indian Rocks Baptist Church for taking the time to teach these young people through the event, instead of doing the event as a youth pastor and/or parents. It was a student led, student run, adult supervised event.
